ALIENS VS PREDATOR - REQUIEM

SYNOPSIS:
On the way to Predators' home planet, a Predator that has been impregnated with an Alien before its death, gives violent birth to the hybrid (Tom Woodruff jnr) who kills the crew and crash lands the spacecraft in sleepy Gunnison, Colorado. A distress signal alerts Predator warrior (Ian Whyte) who sets off for Earth on a mission to eliminate the monster. The town of Gunnison becomes a violent and bloody battleground as humans and the aliens clash - and the military threatens to nuke the place.

Review by Robert Newton:
Beast vs. beast, and it's not compelling in the least. Studio Fox rolls its two rampaging monster franchises out of cryo-stasis in this clunky and dumb sequel to the clunky and dumb 2004 eyesore, Alien vs. Predator.

Warring, kill-hungry aliens from stars afar crash-land on Earth and make people-jerky out of the residents of the sleepy Colorado hamlet of Gunnison. At least some good will come of this hyper-violent special effects showcase when the South Park guys run wild over this easy-bake schlock gift ("Oh my God...you filleted Kenny and hung him from a tree by his feet - you bastard!")

There is a last-minute attempt to connect this battle royal (with cheese) with the first Alien, but the 16-year-olds for whom this one-joke comic book adaptation is designed will likely miss the tacked-on tip-of-the-hat. With its forgettable characters, more squint-tacular poorly-lit scenes and lapses in logic that would send Mr. Spock into a rage, this is one that can wait until DVD, where you can safely skip it again.

Much more family-friendly is the original (and PG-13 rated) Critters (1986), which is what this movie would be if all the viscera was implied and not celebrated.
