VEGAS VACATION

SYNOPSIS:
Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase), loyal husband, devoted dad and full-fledged family man, has finally chosen the perfect vacation destination - Las Vegas, Nevada. Despite Vegas’ new image as a city with wholesome activities for the whole family to enjoy, its tempting underbelly still lures the unsuspecting with its glitzy, glammy enchantments. Clark’s eternally doting wife becomes not so doting …son Rusty becomes hypnotised by the casinos … Shy daughter Audrey is introduced to cage dancing .…Clark finds himself in debt with a card dealer … Can the Griswolds come back together once they’ve tasted the high life in Lost Wages?

"This fourth in the 'Vacation' series breaks the cardinal commandment of film comedy: 'Thou Shalt not Bore your Audience'. While it's one of those great mysteries of life as to why this film was made in the first place, a bigger question is what were the likes of Chase, D'Angelo, Quaid and even the normally gifted Wallace Shawn and Sid Caesar doing in this film? What were they thinking? Well, perhaps they figured: hey, free trip to Vegas, money, why not? Nothing about this movie works, from its sluggish pace to a script as witty as Hamlet's death scene. It's a barren, lifeless film that plods along showing the world - yet again - Las Vegas in all its ridiculous garishness. What is so annoying, is that there is no attempt at inventive humour, and the performance of Randy Quaid is one of the most pitiful in recent memory. Only the occasional musical bursts of Frank and Dean help make one long for the days when a film comedy was precisely that. This is one vacation that went off the rails from the outset."
