DAMNED BY DAWN: DVD

SYNOPSIS:
During a violent thunderstorm, a family is awoken by piercing shrieks which summon the dead to rise again. Their lives explode in a blood soaked fury as they battle malevolent spirits, whilst fighting to save their souls from eternal torment with... the Banshee.

Review by Andrew L. Urban:
The first thing that has to be said about Damned By Dawn is how damned good the performances are - all of them. The second thing is don't be fooled by the relative tranquility for the first quarter hour or so; all bloody hell begins to break loose when the Banshee screams for the dead to awaken.

The 400 VFX shots, all by writer/director Brett Anstey, are seamless and effective, but you won't be sitting there counting them. There is much to commend this new entry in the Aussie horror catalogue, including its ability to be creepier than many of its big budget peers. With a fine 'big' score - and strong soundscape.

Anstey also uses lighting and camera angles to carry us into his nightmare, and a well written screenplay to build on. Antsey's achievement is in maintaining a disciplined grip on the story elements while gradually increasing the gore and the horror. Well done.
