RELIC, THE

SYNOPSIS:
An ancient creature is awakened in a museum. Evolutionary biologist Margo Green and police lieutenant Vincent DíAgosta become unlikely partners when a series of gruesome murders take place in the normally tranquil atmosphere of the natural historical museum. Soon they make the horrific discovery that the assassin is not human, but a terrifying creature with origins drawn from South American mythology.

Andrew L. Urban:
"Producer Gale Ann Hurd must have felt a tinge of nostalgia when shooting some of the scenes in The Relic, when the creature slobbers over Millerís Margo Green: it certainly brought back memories for me, scenes from Aliens, which Hurd also produced. The Relic itself is every inch as good a bitch of a creature as was the alien, in what is a noisy, a tad derivative, and rather over-drawn-out creature feature. But itís great fun, although it stays away from giving Penny any sex scenes - the M rating is more for the violence of the creatureís habits. Excellent escapism, especially for the castÖ..no, seriously, itís good entertainment, and Hyams focuses on his first love, cinematography, letting the action direct the pace."
