MARGARET LOUISE KELLER - THE SINGER

Margaret Keller singing career - a brief overview.

She was 16 when Margaret Louise auditioned for TV talent quest Showcase (the 60s version of Idol) as a singer. As a result she was invited to join Channel 6 in Hobart, as hostess/vocalist on their Children’s Programme, while still at school. She went on to appear on Showcase, where she received the highest popular audience vote in the show’s history, before reaching the Grand Final.

She jumped at the chance to move to Sydney, to sing on the club circuit and on television, leaving her scholarship-won University place. The following 14 years were spent as a professional singer, regularly performing on shows such as Bandstand, Graham Kennedy’s IMT, Mike Walsh and The Don Lane Show. She joined Barry Crocker’s top rated variety programme Sound of Music for 12 months and travelled extensively completing night club seasons in London, Manila and even war-torn Vietnam, where she sang for enthusiastic Australian and American troops.

Career highlights include appearances at the Opera House and Sydney Entertainment Centre, both with Maestro Tommy Tycho’s Orchestra.

Margaret Louise Keller was born in Kanpur, India and educated in Elisabethville in the French-speaking Belgian Congo in Africa, of Austrian and Australian parents. She is both an Austrian and an Australian citizen.

She joined her husband Andrew L. Urban in several publishing ventures, the latest being the pioneering online movie magazine, Urban Cinefile, in the early days of the internet – 1997.

I WANT TO BE ALONE
Lyrics by Andrew L. Urban; Music by Paul Dion

I want to be alone
I want to be alone
Nobody needs to know
What Greta Garbo thinks
What Garbo eats and drinks.

Spare me your publicity
Give the world my mystery.

Allow me this one whim
Just see me in the film
After all the roles I've played
And the special price I've paid
No camera will see me fade
I want to be alone.

I want to be alone
Don't search behind my face
Let me linger in your memory
As a film star solitary
I've been loved on a million screens
Played a part in so many dreams
Showing all that I was feeling
And even if it was but fleeting
There's nothing more you can ask of me
There's nothing else for you to see
Consider Garbo gone
I want to be alone.
