ERRORS OF THE HUMAN BODY

SYNOPSIS:
Seeking a new laboratory to pursue his controversial genetic research, Dr Geoff Burton (Michael Eklund) takes up a position at the world-renowned Institute for Molecular Cell Biology & Genetics in wintry Dresden, Germany. His contribution to their most top-secret project - a human regeneration gene - has the potential to make something miraculous out of a personal tragedy that has haunted him for years. But when he uncovers a conspiracy amongst his colleagues, he finds something quite different: a terrifying new virus, with potentially devastating consequences for humanity - and for Geoff, who is not only its first victim, but its unwitting source.

Review by Andrew L. Urban:
A brooding drama set in a medical research facility, Errors of the Human Body combines some elements of sci-fi and horror, albeit in passing. The story is engaging and performances are tops, with Michael Eklund (recently seen in The Call) as Dr Geoff Burton and the likable and talented Karoline Herfurth (seen in Australia in Vincent Wants to Sea) as Rebekka delivering layered characters.

The underlying tension is created by Burton's traumatic demon, complicated by his previous affair with Rebekka when she was his pupil. This actually works better in the film than it sounds, mostly because of Herfurth's performance.

There is growing tension as the story unfolds and Dr Burton's colleagues become his enemies. The film only stumbles in the final act when Dr Burton runs off in terror, aghast at what is happening to him. This could have been better written, but the quiet climax is moving.
