ROCKY MOUNTAIN EXPRESS

SYNOPSIS: Rocky Mountain Express propels audiences on a steam train journey through the breathtaking vistas of the Canadian Rockies and highlights the adventure of building a nearly impossible transcontinental railway. Recruited to realize this venture-one of the greatest engineering feats of all time-were engineers and laborers from around the world. The film weaves together spectacular IMAX aerial cinematography, archival photographs and maps, and the potent energy and rhythms of a steam locomotive.

Review by Andrew L. Urban:
It's an extraordinary history of determination and overcoming seemingly insurmountable engineering challenges, often at great cost in human lives, this 3,000 mile iron road that connects the West Coast of Canada and the East Coast. The Rocky Mountains were the toughest of a tough set of geographical challenges, and it's fascinating to learn about so many, but even so, I could have heard more.

The combination of aerial photography with archival material provides plenty of exture not just eye candy, and the simplicity of the film allows the giant IMAX images to rule.

At some moments the audience feels as if it taking the ride through the fabulous landscape - which is one of the main reasons for seeing the film. Also good to learn what an important role the railway played in the very formulation of Canada as a nation.
