RE: THE HURRICANE
Dear Ed,
I went to see The Hurricane last Thursday with a double pass that I won at your site. I was simply floored! The movie was not at all what I was expecting. I had read that Denzel had trained for months to box, and I guess I just imagined that it would be all boxing. Wow, was I wrong. The movie simply moved me. I laughed, I cried, I felt anger, excitement, pity, and love. I went to see this movie on my own, and I looked around the theatre quite a few times, and I truly believe that I was not on my own with the feelings I was experiencing. The Hurricane deserves ***** five stars in my opinion, and if Denzel Washington does not win the Oscar for his performance, then I don't know what the judges watched, but it couldn't have been his performance in The Hurricane. Well done. It was marvellous.

Your site is just the best on the web. I wait with baited breath (yuk, what a horrid expression) every Wednesday for 8pm to come when the kids go to bed and I can log on and wrap myself in all the movie news. Andrew Urban, you have done a wonderful job, as has Louise Keller (I just love the reviews she writes). Thank you for making my Wednesdays.
Many thanks,
Maree Bitenc

We're delighted that you enjoyed The Hurricane so much with a ticket won here, and of course thrilled that you think so highly of our site. Delighted, too, that we help to make your Wednesdays - Andrew & Louise

Note for those who are not Movie Club members: the reason Maree loves Wednesday nights is that's when our free weekly newsletter emails go out with a summary of the week's new reviews, interviews, VHS and DVD releases, news stories - and the new competition/s. If you'd like to receive these, just JOIN UP. It's free and you can unsubscribe at any time.

REVIEW OF CUT
I have not seen and probably will not see Cut. I browsed the reviews along with some others on my first visit to get an idea of your views and prejudices. One thing I must disagree with is Louise Keller's assertion that there is no place for bad American accents on film. Why not? There should be more of it! They've been doing it to us and everybody else for years (Bart vs Australia, Mary Poppins etc etc) and deserve a little back in return.

SAFFRON'S WETSUIT
Please tell me that Paul Fischer understood why Saffron Burrow's character took off her wetsuit during Deep Blue Sea!
Paul Dossett

Ed: I hate to disappoint you, but I can't tell you that.

REQUEST FROM ITALY
I mailed you from Italy a month ago to ask you some news about the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards and you've been very kind to answer me. My problem now is that I missed that week when the awards were out. Can you help me please? I'm a big fan of Australian cinema and awards and I'd really like to know the winners. Thanks a lot. I'd really appreciate it.
My regards,
Alessandro Cantoni, Italy

Ed: The winners and nominees are HERE

GUESTHOUSE PARADISO
Do you know when Guest House Paradiso opens here? It's got Rik Mayall in it. I think it was s'posed to open on March 23, but it didn't. Can you help me?
Madman Mars

Ed: As of now, it is to open July 20, 2000.
