FOOLS RUSH IN

SYNOPSIS:
Nightclub designer Alex Whitman (Matthew Perry) is waiting in a bathroom line at a Mexican restaurant in Las Vegas when he encounters the beautiful photographer Isabel Fuentes (Salma Hayek). Though opposites in nearly every way, romantic sparks fly and the two have a passionate one night stand. Three months later, Isabel suddenly shows up and tells Alex that she is pregnant with his child and that she intends to keep it. The two hastily marry but it doesn't take long for the two newlyweds to begin seriously reconsidering their haste. While contemplating a break-up, Isabel requests that Alex meet her large family during one of their weekly dinner parties. It is a tumultuous repast. Soon afterward, Alex's parents show up for a surprise visit; they have no idea that their son has married. This only creates more comical chaos and many merry misunderstandings follow before the story draws to its predictably romantic close.

"Hollywood has a habit of churning out mainstream romantic comedies, which are neatly and predictably packaged. To some extent, Fools Rush In is an example of the genre. It's a simple tale nicely told, nothing special or extraordinary in any way, but harmless, pleasant entertainment, akin to a mildly successful souffle. What the film DOES have is the winning on-screen chemistry of Perry and Hayek, two skilled and cinematically expressive actors who work beautifully in creating the cultural distinctions that really define this film. Perry of Friends fame is a natural actor with in-built charm and presence, while Hayek is an alluring and seductive presence with some added depth to convey her character's confusion. It's a winning and likeable combination that helps make Fools Rush In more than ordinary Hollywood piffle."
