"It's a coming of age film for someone at 30, not 15. Bit tragic, but that's the reality"  -David Caesar on his film, Mullet

FCCA AWARDS 2002 - NOMINATIONS

STUNNED BY MULLET
David Caesar’s engrossing story of a singular young man’s sudden return to his country town, Mullet, has evidently stunned Australian film critics, earning six nominations including Best Film, in the awards presented by Film Critics Circle of Australia.

Mullet is joined on the critics’ list of best films by Lantana, Moulin Rouge and The Bank, all of which might have been expected. But Caesar’s film - not particularly successful in box office terms when released in the first half of 2001, sitting in 100th position amongst all Australian films ranked by box office takings, with $1,157,161 – is a surprise nomination. It was obviously underrated by the public.

Lantana has 10 nominations, Moulin Rouge has seven, The Bank has six.

The presentation will be hosted by Showtime movie presenter and radio personality James Valentine, and the organisers are expecting a cluster of stars and filmmakers to attend the night, such as the Bazmark team.
