VILLAGE GOLD CLASS – JUST THE (NATIONAL) TICKET

It’s (almost) your own private cinema, with luxurious, deep-cushion chairs, drinks and finger foods at your fingertips, small crowd (avge 30), a big screen . . . and from this week you can send a ticket to a Gold Class movie experience as a gift to your mum/mate in another state, reports Andrew L. Urban.

Launched in Victoria (who said Sydney is the home of decadence?!) the Gold Class concept takes the movie experience to the ultimate level of luxury. I tried one at Melbourne’s Crown Casino complex, where Village have four Gold Class cinemas operating in a secluded enclave with its own private bar and lounge area.

Each Gold Class Cinema features between 18 to 40, fully reclining Moran armchairs arranged in pairs, complete with adjustable footrests and your own personal table with wine cooler. The big screen quality and sound are excellent and the sense of privacy adds to the experience.

"For the first time ever, cinema lovers will be able to purchase a national ticket valid at all Gold Class Cinemas Australia wide," says Zoe Aitken, National Marketing Executive for Village’s Gold Class cinemas, speaking of the new initiative to craete a uniform national movie ticket. "Driven by Village Cinemas, the pioneers of Gold Class Cinemas, and in conjunction with Greater Union and Birch Carroll & Coyle, this unique ticket will be accepted at any one of 10 Gold Class Cinemas, across QLD, NSW and VIC. And for a purchase price of only $33 it makes a fantastic gift."

You can enjoy a glass of bubbly or a cold beer while you're watching the latest movie, and order from a selection of light meals and other beverages from the special Gold Class menu, served by dedicated Gold Class staff at your nominated time during the film.

Reasonably priced, the menu includes items such as vegetarian spring rolls (5 for $7.10), pizza napoli and crumbed chicken fingers (both $12). A bottle of sparkling from $15 or a top Coonawarra Shiraz for $30 are options from a drinks menu that includes several beers and even a dessert wine.
