NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE

SYNOPSIS:
Jake Wyler (Chris Evans) is good looking, rich and the most popular guy at school. After breaking up with his girlfriend Priscilla (Jaime Pressly), he makes a bet that he can turn any girl into prom-queen material, even aspiring artist Janey Briggs (Chyler Leigh), who wears glasses, a pony tail and has paint covered overalls. Jake enlists the help of his scheming sister Catherine (Mia Kirshner), who has her own plans to seduce her own brother.

Review by Louise Keller:
Yep, everything you expect is here Not Another Teen Movie is a fun parody on teen movies filled with slapstick, music gags, crass jokes and toilet humour. Films like American Pie, She's All That, Risky Business, Grease, Can't Hardly Wait, Pretty in Pink, Bring it On, Final Destination, Cruel Intentions, Karate Kid are all represented, and there are some surprising salutes to Unbreakable, Almost Famous and American Beauty.

Much of the charm of the film lies in spotting the reference, and the transformation into a music parody of Grease is a welcome surprise. It's actually better than it sounds, with compelling, fresh performances and enough nonsense to take you out of yourself, despite yourself. Of course it really is just nonsense, but that's what you're expecting right? With the exception of a rather messy, overdone toilet dump when three nerdy freshmen take a peek into the girls' locker room and the ceiling collapses, you need to keep alert or you'll miss the gags. They are tossed at us decisively and continuously with throwaways like number-plates that read 'dirt poor' and 'filthy rich'; the hot dog stand for practising oral sex; the naked buxom student at the party 'I can't believe she's wearing the same outfit as you!'

It's a pot pouri of absurdity with plenty of crude ingredients but it never falls short of ideas, and it's not surprising to see the number of script writers credited. As for Janey's (Pumpkin Tits) transformation from ugly to gorgeous why oh why do filmmakers think by taking glasses off and letting down hair, a girl suddenly becomes Cinderella? Don't they think we are smart enough to notice she's a pretty girl to start with? Watch out for cameos by Mr T and Molly Ringwald, but take heed: if the opening sequence offends you, you may as well go home.
