AUSTRALIAN DVD AWARDS 2003 – THE NOMINATIONS
Nominations for the second Australian DVD Awards (March 7, State Theatre, Sydney) feature some of the anticipated high profile releases – such as Lord of The Rings with 7 nominations - but some of the less obvious DVDs are also contenders, like Leunig’s animated cartoons and Dinotopia.
In its second year, the Australian DVD Awards, organised by Region 4 Magazine and sponsored by Pioneer Electronics, The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, Urban Cinefile and others, comprises categories voted by thousands of the DVD buying public and categories voted by industry panels.
The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, unsurprisingly, crops up in seven categories, and twice in two. And Mad Max turns up as a nominee in Best Australian Film On DVD, along with Lantana, The Hard Word and Rabbit Proof Fence.
The presentation will be hosted by Melbourne based actor-comedian Jimeoin, with several celebrity guest presenters.
Last year’s presentation was admired for its brevity (1 hr 5 minutes) and the sense of fun generated among the mostly industry and media guests.
