"Thank God I've got these movies that are fun and I can do things, like go on a 10 week boot camp - that's fun."  -Vin Diesel after making xXx

JERRY MAGUIRE

SYNOPSIS:
Sports agent Jerry Maguire has it all - looks, top job and stunning fiancee. But that was before his realisation that people and not money are what count. Stripped of his job, self-respect and his fiancee, Jerry starts from scratch.

Review by Louise Keller:
Jerry Maguire combines a superb cast with a witty, fresh script to entertain, amuse and touch emotionally. The role allows Tom Cruise to shine in the way that he did in his early films of Risky Business and Top Gun, endearing us to him unfalteringly. Renee Zellweger, playing his love interest and loyal assistant Dorothy, brings major appeal to the role with her vulnerable heart-on-her sleeve performance, while inspired casting introduces us to the cutest six year old Jonathan Lipnicki, utterly adorable as her son. But the "show-role" goes to Cuba Gooding Jr., as the larger-than-life ambitious sports star who makes us laugh and cry with a stunning, complex and beautifully controlled performance. Listen for an emotionally effective musical score from singer/songwriter Nancy Wilson, who happens to be married to Cameron Crowe. A feel-good movie that satisfies emotionally.

Review by Andrew L. Urban:
You know the best part of this movie? For me it’s the fact that it doesn’t matter that I don’t know what a Wide Receiver is. Cuba Gooding jnr plays it (remember him in Lightning Jack?). It’s a position in American football, but the position doesn’t count as much as the person inside it. Actually, maybe the best part of the movie is the script. And Cuba Gooding. Oh, yes, Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger…. OK, I liked a lot of it.
