SCREEN MUSIC AWARDS 2004 - WINNERS

Music from Japanese Story, Master and Commander: Far Side of the World and Somersault won major awards at this year’s APRA-AGSC Screen Music Awards, and Lisa Gerrard won the international award.

If music be the food of movies, play on, the Bard would have said, had he seen any movies; indeed, movie music is the food for our emotional engagement with films and this week APRA and AGSC celebrated the best of it with the annual awards, held at Sydney’s Four Season’s hotel, with Nerida Tyson-Chew conducting the 40 piece orchestra.

The highlight of the night was a short performance by Lisa Gerrard, who was honoured with the International Achievement Award for a body of work that has achieved critical acclaim around the globe. In a career that has spanned almost two decades, Lisa Gerrard’s credits includes scores or musical contributions to Gladiator, Insider, Ali, Whale Rider, Heat, Baraka, Mission Impossible 2, Black Hawk Down, One Perfect Day, Passion of the Christ, Man on Fire and many more. She has received Golden Globe nominations for Insider and Ali, Grammy and Oscar nominations and a Golden Globe award for the score of Gladiator and four international awards for Whale Rider.
