Movie review:
JACK REACHER: NEVER GO BACK
(US, 2016) Dir: Edward Zwick. Stars Tom Cruise, Cobie Smulders, Robert Knepper. "Lacking in suspense and devoid of the kind of thrills we have come to expect from a big budget Tom Cruise action thriller, this sequel is a sorry disappointment, despite no shortage of showy action scenes and heavy-duty firepower," says Louise.

COMPETITIONS
CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE DVD
Win one of 10 DVD copies of Central Intelligence, starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, courtesy Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Available now on Blu-ray, DVD & Digital.

Movie reviews:
CAFE SOCIETY
(US, 2016) Dir: Woody Allen. Stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Steve Carell, Blake Lively. "The intricacies of the characterisations, the settings and mood are wonderfully textured in Woody Allen's usual style, although as a complete work, Cafe Society treads water," says Louise. "Enjoyable on a superficial level and attractively made, Cafe Society is not Woody Allen at his very best. As always, though, his sublime taste in music makes up for much of the lack-lustre screenplay," says Andrew.

Movie review:
NEON DEMON
(France, Denmark, US, 2016) Dir: Nicolas Winding Refn. Stars Elle Fanning, Christina Hendricks, Keanu Reeves. (R18+) "Nicolas Winding Refn comes close to self-indulgence when moderation would help, but then who the hell wants moderation in a film that is anything but moderate," says Andrew.

UPCOMING FILMS
[Coming in November, The Accountant, starring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons. "Be prepared to be startled," says Louise.]

NEW DVDS:
INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE
Stars Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman. "The plot and dialogue get a big fuzzy at times, but the film plays as expected: a boys own adventure generously endowed with scale, stupendous visual effects and a blend of old and new characters that rally together to save the world," says Louise.

THE LEGEND OF TARZAN
Stars Alexander Skarsgard, Margot Robbie, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, Djimon Hounsou. "Alexander Skarsgard's abs, the magic of a digitally inhabited jungle and the breathtaking beauty of the Congo setting are the key elements of this interesting mix of superhero epic, adventure, creature feature, historical drama buoyed by a touch of lusty romance," says Louise.

SWISS ARMY MAN
Stars Daniel Radcliffe, Paul Dano, Mary Elizabeth Winstead. "Inspired? Absurd? Silly? Genius? Surreal? Fake? Well, in short, unique. The story cannot be taken as naturalistic, given that drowned men don't come to life by farting," says Andrew.

Competition winners:
JULIETA
To win, courtesy Transmission films, we asked: What is your favourite Pedro Almodar film and why? Michael McKenna (ACT): All About My Mother. A wonderful film that makes you laugh and cry, especially in the scenes about the transvestite Abrades. It is a complex drama, which highlights the importance of a mother.
