MOVIES NOW RETURNS:
Six Wednesdays at 6.30, from Feb 1, 2017: Join Andrew L. Urban for the 33rd season of Movies Now at Dendy Newtown, Sydney, screening hand picked new movies (unannounced) prior to their commercial release, followed by a discussion with special guests.

Movie review:
LION
(Aust, 2016) Dir: Stars Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, Sunny Pawar, Rooney Mara, David Wenham. "Loss and belonging are the themes of this incredible true story; it is the simplicity of the storytelling that brings it to life. Most crucial is the establishment of the Indian reality," says Louise.

BOX OFFICE:

COMPETITIONS
INFERNO DVD
Win one of 10 DVD copies of Inferno, starring Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones, courtesy Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Available now on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD.

Movie review:
JACKIE
(US, 2016) Dir: Pablo Larrain. Stars Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard, Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup, John Hurt. "Natalie Portman's central multi-layered performance is unforgettable for many reasons. Beyond the physical illusion ... her portrayal is both internal and external," says Louise.

Movie review:
COLLATERAL BEAUTY
(US, 2016) Dir: David Frankel. Stars Will Smith, Edward Norton, Kate Winslet, Michael Pena, Helen Mirren, Naomie Harris, Keira Knightley. "... already groaning under a surfeit of sentimentality, Collateral Beauty could shed some of its syrup to achieve bigger, deeper impact. It also overloads on death," says Andrew.

UPCOMING FILMS
[Coming in February, Manchester by the Sea, stars Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams; "Lonergan's film rings true on every level as the complex relationships and multi layered intricacies of grief find a compass that points to calmer waters," says Louise.]
Calendar of films releasing in January 2017

NEW TRAILERS
Fifty Shades Darker, stars Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson;
Fences, stars Denzel Washington, Viola Davis;
xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, stars Vin Diesel;
Split, stars Stars James McAvoy, Betty Buckley;
A Cure for Wellness, stars Jason Isaacs, Dane DeHaan, Mia Goth;

NEW DVDS:
CAFE SOCIETY
Stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Steve Carell. "Enjoyable on a superficial level and attractively made, Cafe Society is not Woody Allen at his very best. As always, though, his sublime taste in music makes up for much of the lacklustre screenplay," says Andrew.

DEEP WATER HORIZON
Stars Mark Wahlberg, John Malkovich. "Despite the fact that much of the dialogue is indecipherable and it is hard to know exactly what is happening for much of the time, the sheer power and scale of one of the world's largest man made disasters takes your breath away," says Louise

Competition winners:
ALLIED
To win tickets courtesy Paramount Pictures, we asked: Who among family & friends would you choose to be your partner in crime? Dan Schmidt (SA): My workmate Terry; he has lots of fast, expensive cars. Perfect for a quick getaway and for swapping so we can't be tracked!!!
