Movie reviews:
MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS
(US, 2012) Dir: Joss Whedon. Stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner. "Lovers of the genre will be hard pressed to name their favourite superhero or moment - egos, powers, personalities and conflicts let rip, as extravagant action, awe-inspiring stunts and extraordinary special effects in 3D fill the screen in a blaze of spectacle. There's humour too," says Louise. " .. doesn't have the emotional involvement of the best of sci-fi action films, but it's a thrashing good big dipper ride and the 3D actually works," says Andrew.

Movie reviews:
WISH YOU WERE HERE
(Aust, 2012) Dir: Kieran Darcy-Smith. Stars Joel Edgerton, Teresa Palmer, Felicity Price, Antony Starr. "In his feature film directing debut, multi-talented writer director Kieran Darcy-Smith has conceived and structured a powerful screenplay in collaboration with actress wife Felicity Price, whose performance in the leading role of Alice is stunning," says Louise. "The filmmakers have got everything right for a genre film that sets out to keep us on the edge of our seats," says Andrew.

Movie reviews:
THE WAY
(US, 2012) Dir: Emilio Estevez. Stars Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez, Deborah Kara Unger, Yorick van Wageningen. "Estevez has made a gentle and immensely likeable film that flows naturally, whose heart comes from the solid, grounding performance by his father Martin Sheen," says Louise. "It's not quite a road movie nor a real redemption story, nor a buddy movie; it's a diary where the journey is more important than the getting to the destination," says Andrew.

Movie reviews:
CAFÉ DE FLORE
(Canada/France, 2011) Dir: Jean-Marc Vallee. Stars Vanessa Paradis, Kevin Parent, Evelyne Brochu, Helene Florent. "Ambiguous and complex, Café de Flore is a fantasy about love - and not just the romantic kind. That is what makes it so challenging and opaque, because the parallels Jean-Marc Vallée presents are not comparable," says Andrew. "Love, destiny and dark clouds swirl together ominously as resentment, communication breakdown and desperation shake hands," says Louise.

Movie reviews:
IRVINE WELSH'S ECSTASY
(Canada, 2011) Dir: Rob Heydon. Stars Adam Sinclair, Kristin Kreuk, Billy Boyd, Carlo Rota. "Getting a fix on reality is the challenge in this exploration of truth, lies and ecstasy set in the Edinburgh drug and club scene... (although it) captures the claustrophobic essence of the scene it depicts in a world without light, the curve of the exposition is not great enough to satisfy," says Louise.

UPCOMING FILMS
[Coming soon, Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Documentary. "Not only does 85 year old Jiro Ono make sushi in his dreams, but he has been making the real thing in Tokyo for the past 75 years... If you ever wondered what is the Art of Sushi, David Gelb's intriguing portrait opens up a whole new world, in which we learn about simplicity, balance and what defines 'deliciousness'", says Louise.]

DVDS THIS WEEK
TOWER HEIST
Stars Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller, Casey Affleck, Alan Alda, Matthew Broderick. "Brilliantly executed with hilarious ideas and a first-class cast, Tower Heist is a sparkling and original caper," says Louise.
INTERVIEW - Alan Alda on playing a crooked financier.

THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN
Stars Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg. "In an Indiana Jones-like adventure that takes us on the high seas, the sweeping desert and exotic destinations in North Africa, the story soars with action and humour," says Louise..

HAPPY FEET 2
(Aust/US, 2011) Dir: George Miller. Voices of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Pink, Ava Acres, Common, Sofia Vergara, Magda Szubanski, Hugo Weaving. "If there's a quibble, it's because the storyline tries to incorporate too much with too many new characters that distract from the main event," says Louise.

THE IRON LADY
Stars Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent, Anthony Head, Richard E. Grant. "We are not disappointed by Meryl Streep's magical interpretation of Margaret Thatcher, but we are a bit disappointed in the story telling," says Andrew.

THE EYE OF THE STORM
Stars Geoffrey Rush, Judy Davis, Charlotte Rampling, Colin Friels. "A handpicked cast headed by Geoffrey Rush, Judy Davis and Charlotte Rampling, offers the story's themes of life, death, privilege and pain on a silver platter for us to digest with poetry, delicacy and lust for life. the film jumps in and out of flashback like a metronome on countdown," says Louise.

WE HAVE A POPE
Stars Nanni Moretti, Michel Piccoli, Jerzy Stuhr, Renato Scarpa. " .. an unusual film that occasionally plays a little dull. It is perhaps too clever for its own good," says Louise.

Competition winners:
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL DVD
To celebrate the release of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, starring Tom Cruise, win one of 5 ultimate Mission Impossible prize packs valued at $135 each, courtesy Paramount Home Entertainment, we asked: Who among family or friends is/has been on a Mission Impossible such as giving up smoking, losing weight, etc and what's the result?
