Movie reviews:
HITCHCOCK
(US, 2012) Dir: Sacha Gervasi. Stars Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson, James D'Arcy, Jessica Biel, Michael Stuhlbarg, Toni Collette. "Hitchcock is like a surreal caricature in a soap opera about his life, albeit a rather wonderful one," says Louise. "For anyone with even a passing interest in cinema, Hitchcock is a legendary figure and a story that purports to take us inside his private world and public life is irresistible," says Andrew.

COMPETITIONS
HITCHCOCK
Win one of 10 double inseason passes to Hitchcock, starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson, Toni Collette and Jessica Biel, courtesy 20th Century Fox. Only at the Movies January 17.

Movie reviews:
GANGSTER SQUAD
(US, 2012) Dir: Ruben Fleischer. Stars Sean Penn, Ryan Golsing, Emma Stone, Mireille Enos, Michael Pena, Josh Brolin. "The realism is such that I felt I was an invisible bystander, ducking bullets as the action transpires... Gripping, ballsy, edge of seat cinema," says Louise. "To a very large extent, Gangster Squad achieves its objectives as a patriotic flag waving for the honest men and women of the police force who face death every day as part of their job to secure the community," says Andrew.

Movie reviews:
PARANORMAN
(US, 2012) Dir: Sam Fell, Chris Butler. Voices of Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tucker Albrizzi, Casey Affleck, Anna Kendrick, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Leslie Mann. "Bristling with energy, here's a delectable 3D film that's inventive, funny, devilishly ghoulish, loaded with splendid effects and a heartfelt story at its core," says Louise. "While it is unequivocally a family movie, it packs enough adult punch to make the outing worthwhile," says Andrew.

Awards:
AACTA INTERNATIONAL AWARDS 2013 - NOMINATIONS
This year's International Awards Nominations represent a predictably Hollywood-Aussie-centric view of cinema at Australia's fledgling Academy of Cinema and Television Arts, with the exception of the French Amour and the French/Belgian Rust and Bone (both for Best Actress).

UPCOMING FILMS
[Coming soon, Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, starring Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx, Leonardo diCaprio. "Exciting, entertaining, funny, dramatic and edgy, Django Unchained is also intelligent and sometimes touching, often bloody and yet - in the end - a romantic softie, too," says Andrew. "It's the incongruity of all the elements that make it irresistibly delectable... Hell's bells; there is a lot to take in and soak up in this hotdog Tarantino Western. It's a killer," says Louise.]

DVDS OUT THIS WEEK
YOUR SISTER'S SISTER
Stars Emily Blunt, Mark Duplass, Rosemary Dewitt, Mike Birbiglia. "Had there been some sexual chemistry between the characters in addition to the wonderful truthfulness and great performances, the film would have soared," says Louise.

WUNDERKINDER
Stars Kai Wiesinger, Gudrun Landgrebe, Catherine H. Flemming, Mark Zak. " .. stands up well as a wartime drama with familiar elements - but also with a slightly different approach," says Andrew.

MADAGASCAR 3: EUROPE'S MOST WANTED
Stars Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith. "A vivacious kaleidoscope of colour, dazzle and show, his third in the franchise simply bursts with joie de vivre, goofy humour and innovative ideas as its central endearing characters join the circus," says Louise.

Competition winners:
HOPE SPRINGS
To win DVDs of Hope Springs, starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones, Steve Carell, courtesy Roadshow Home Entertainment, we asked: Who among middle aged family and friends do you suspect of being sexually hyperactive and why?
