Movie review:
MAGIC MIKE XXL
(US, 2015) Dir: Stars Channing Tatum, Amber Heard, Andiee McDowell, Jada Pinkett Smith, Joe Manganiello. "Sex continues to be the sizzle in this raunchy road movie that plays out like fun-filled foreplay and in which Channing Tatum has all the moves. It doesn't matter that the plot is in short supply: this is all about fun and sensual pleasure," says Louise.

Movie review:
MADAME BOVARY
(Germany/Belgium, 2015) Dir: Sophie Barthes. Stars Mia Wasikowska, Rhys Ifans, Ezra Miller, Paul Giamatti, "Cold Souls director Sophie Barthes has created a rich and involving film, coloured by hope and good intentions; shattered by the clouds of disillusionment," says Louise.

Movie review:
MIKE LEIGH'S THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE (ENO)
(UK, 2014) Dir: Mike Leigh. Stars Andrew Shore, Robert Murray as Frederic, Jonathan Lemalu, Rebecca de Pont Davies, Joshua Bloomm Claudia Boyle. "With its larger than life characters, brightly coloured sets and animated cast, Gilbert & Sullivan's beloved operetta about sentimental pirates, clumsy coppers, musing maidens and curious paradoxes plays out in traditional, likeable fashion," says Louise.

UPCOMING FILMS
[Coming in August, 5 Flights Up, starring Morgan Freeman & Diane Keaton. "It's about the little things and the big things, while the dynamic between Freeman and Keaton is solid gold," says Louise.]

At a glance:
TOP 20
Short and sweet (or not) opinions on the most popular current releases. An easy reference for choosing which movie to see tonight or tomorrow or right now! (Occasionally we also slip in a few of our favourites if they do not make the top 20)

NEW DVDS:
KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE
Stars Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Strong, Michael Caine, Taron Egerton. "The plot flies wildly at times but there's plenty to entertain ... including the scene-stealing Samuel L. Jackson as a lisping, philanthropist billionaire with misguided notions about climate change," says Louise.

PROJECT ALMANAC
Stars Jonny Weston, Amy Landecker, Sofia Black-D'Elia. "The film has an appealing energy and a fresh young cast, but its stylistic, shaky hand-held camera quickly becomes tiresome and irritating," says Louise.

Competition winners:
A MOST VIOLENT YEAR DVD
To win J.C. Chandor’s powerful crime drama, courtesy Roadshow Home Entertainment, we asked: Who among family and friends has shown unwavering belief in someone or something and how? Donna Law (Qld): Me. My husband had spinal surgery last year. I knew he would not end up a quadriplegic and will walk normally again.

EGER - HUNGARY
Famous for its Bull's Blood, but the blood of the Hungarian heroes of the 16th century siege of Eger by Ottoman Turks also runs in its veins, and now there is also chocolate, as Andrew L. Urban found on his visit.
